  1. Obtain the meeting's agreement.
  2. Determine the signatories on the account (the treasurer and at least one other person should be able to sign checks). These people will have to break their anonymity.

  3. Obtain a Tax ID Number (EIN) for your group:
    1. Enter your meeting's name and number as the "legal name" on the online form at the IRS website.
    2. Check "other nonprofit organization" under "Type of entity" and enter "12-Step Group" where it says "specify."
    3. Check "banking purpose" and specify "To open a checking account for our group" under "Reason for Applying."
    4. Use the current date for "date business started or acquired."
    5. Check "Health care and social assistance" under "principal activity of your business".
    6. Complete the other fields and submit the form.
    7. Your EIN will be given to you automatically online and confirmed by mail within a week or so.
  4. Have the account signatories take your EIN paper to the bank.
  5. Make sure you put your group number as part of the name on the checking account.
  6. When a new treasurer is elected, add that person as a signatory on the account.
  7. Remember to send contributions to your local Intergroup, local GSR group, and the DA General Service Office.
